Interview with Fitness Model Justine Moore

Justine Moore Interview

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and how you started training?

I grew up in Wisconsin and moved out to New York to attend Hofstra University, from where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.  I gained weight when I started college, so I got a job at a local gym to get back into working out.  That’s when I really started to learn about weight lifting and nutrition.  I found myself so intrigued by the fitness lifestyle that I decided to get certified as a personal trainer.  Once I began working as a personal trainer it uncovered a passion of mine for helping others improve their self esteem and quality of life through health and fitness.

I’m the type of person who always likes to set goals for myself to work towards, so as a trainer I decided to get my body into peak condition by competing in a figure competition.  I stepped on stage for the first time in April of 2010 and have never looked back.  I compete in the NPC Bikini Division and recently qualified for Nationals, where I will compete in 2012.  I am a proud Team Bombshell Athlete and a brand representative and product specialist for MET-Rx and Pure Protein.  I currently train clients both in person and on a national level through online fitness programs.  I am also pursuing my love for fitness modeling.  I am truly blessed to have come into contact with so many wonderful people and had so many great experiences through fitness… and this is only the beginning!

How do you stay motivated?

I remind myself WHY I live a fit lifestyle: because I am so much happier and more successful in all areas of my life when I look and feel my best.  Giving into food cravings only lasts a few minutes… but feeling confident and happy with your body lasts 24/7.  Nothing tastes as good as being fit feels!

What is your current workout routine?

My coaches at Team Bombshell give me different workout routines to follow every day.  No two workouts are alike, so I am constantly challenging my body in different ways to get results week after week.  This type of training also keeps me from getting bored, or falling into a rut or plateau.

My current split looks like this:

Monday – Quads/ Glutes
Tuesday – Shoulders/ Chest/ Triceps
Wednesday – Hamstrings
Thursday – Back/ Biceps
Friday – Glutes
Saturday – Plyometrics, Track work, or Sprints
Sunday – Rest

I also perform a separate cardio workout 5-6 days a week, depending on my goals at the time.

What is your diet like?

I typically eat 6 meals a day consisting of proteins, carbs and fats.  Proteins include egg whites, chicken, fish, and steak.  Carbs are sweet potatoes, oatmeal, brown rice, and rice cakes.  For fats I mostly use olive oil and flax seed oil.  I also eat tons of green vegetables and drink at least 1 gallon of water per day.

What gives you the best results when trying to get lean?

High intensity training and consistency in my diet.

What 3 exercises have contributed the most to building your physique?

Squats, deadlifts and lat pulldowns.

What supplements do you use?

During contest prep I use a fat burner upon waking.  Right now I’m using MET-Rx Thermal Infusion.  With breakfast I take a multi vitamin and glucosamine.  For a pre-workout boost I love Worldwide Nutrition’s Extreme Thermo Rush.  I like to supplement with BCAA’s during my workout by mixing them in my water.  For protein powder I use MET-Rx Ultramyosyn Whey Isolate.  At night I take calcium, vitamin C and more glucosamine.

What is the most common training question that people ask you?

“How do I lose weight in my stomach/midsection?”
The answer is what most people don’t want to hear: a clean, balanced diet!!!  Exercise is also important, but no amount of crunches will ever help you tone up your midsection without making changes in your eating habits.

What is your greatest achievement so far?

I have to say that inspiring others to make positive changes in their lives is the most rewarding experience, and what I am most proud of.  Every time someone tells me I’ve made a difference in their life I know I am on the right path, and all my hard work is truly paying off.

What is your favorite quote?

“There must be a thousand girls out there, dreaming the same things as me.  But I’m not going to worry about them; I’m dreaming the hardest.” ~Marilyn Monroe

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to compete until I reach my goal of earning an IFBB Pro Card in the Bikini Division.  I hope to be a signed, sponsored athlete by one of my favorite supplement companies. I also dream of gracing the pages (and hopefully covers!) of some of my favorite fitness magazines such as Muscle & Fitness Hers, Oxygen & FitnessRx for Women.

I’m sure that I like that type of woman. I’m sure that I try for a woman half as fit as her. I like her work out, if it were up to me I would be able to look up and manage my workout to hers.
